What is the pressure pad and what role does it play?
The pressure bearing is a part of the clutch with the role of pressure transmission from the clutch pedal to the pressure plate. Its main purpose is to disconnect and pair the clutch as follows:
When it is pressed on the clutch pedal, the force is transmitted through the fork lever to the sleeve of the pressure bearing and overcoming the force developed by the «petal» elastics of the pressure plate, it leaves the friction disk and the moment of the engine is not further transmitted; This is the location WORN OUT clutch.
The pairing of the clutch is again performed by the release of Lina del Pedale, after which the springs will again press the pressure pad on the friction disc and this on the flywheel. Until there is an energetic press between the friction surfaces of the disc and the flywheel, the friction force that arises between these surfaces is small. In this unwanted situation, the clutch will not be able to transmit the entire moment of the engine, there will be a slip between the flywheel and the friction disk, the disc will have a lower speed and the clutch will patrol. During the skating period of the clutch, part of the mechanical energy is transformed into thermal energy, the clutch is heated and produces faster wear of the driving disk gaskets. When the complete release of the clutch pedal, the pressure force developed by the springs is large enough to transmit the moment of the engine. This is the location coupled clutch.
We distinguish two types of these bearings, that is to say:
- Simple pressure pad (with spheres) – This type of bearing works on the basis of a rigid bond between the auctions, with which these mechanical units transmit resistance to the field.
- Hydraulic pressure pad – This force is created by the hydraulic system. The advantage is that it does not require too much pressing force to be managed.
What symptoms are for a defective pressure bearing?
Also called the clutch release pad, it is at rest during the car movement, acting only to change the speeds. Its defect makes it impossible to make the car work, in conclusion it must be changed immediately.
The signs of the pressure pad failure are the same for any type of vehicles. The malfunction is quite common, because it is subject to a constant heavy load, which means that it is used faster than the other components.
Characteristic symptoms of a defective pressure bearing:
- If you start the engine to listen to the noise emitted, then press the clutch and the noise does not disappear and even more powerful, it can be said that this problem is created by the bearing. If the noise disappears, it can be assumed that the malfunction is elsewhere, i.e. from the gearbox.
- When the engine is at the ranks, while the release of the clutch feels like a bitter; If the car moves, it is more strident, like an howl.
- If the destruction of the bearing is partial, the ululant sound is replaced by a blow.
- If a whistle is listened to in the gearbox, it is a sign that the bearing has remained without lubricant and if the whistle is lubricated.
- The sound in the form of an howl is often listened to in the appearance of cracks or chips in the carriage of the bearing, possibly destroying one or more rollers.
- If the bearing is seriously damaged, you hear a noise suddenly when the engine starts. When you notice these noises, the engine should no longer work, because the friction of the debris causes the strong heating of the metal and the bearing is simply paid on the tree, which would lead to the replacement of both components.
What are the causes for which the pressure pad can be damaged?
- The breakdown of this component can occur because of bumps, if, tasks that the bearing welcomes at the time of pressure of the clutch, which brings back to its movement. In extreme situations, the bearing can even break.
- Its failure can also occur due to the improper guide in beginner or unregistered drivers.
- The appearance of a winter noise indicates that there is a regular change in the linear standards of the continuous self -supporting film (the bearing lubricant), with a decrease in the air temperature level.
- When holding the clutch for a long time in a march, right now, the bearing returns from this position, taking the unit. Landing in such an unusual position, it is subject to incredible tasks.
- Improper use leads to the premature wear of the bearing.
How does a pressure pad changes?
For a stranger, the replacement of the pressure buffer on a classic car, with a manual transmission, is performed as follows:

- The planetaries are dismantled
- The gearbox is deleted
- The gearbox is cut and removes
- Remove the safety of the fixing screw of the bearing implementation fork
- Remove the axis of the fork guide
- Remove the pressure pad and its bush on the gearbox axis
assembly
- Lubricate the gearbox and the pressure pad
- Insert the bearing with its driving bush on the gearbox axis
- The fork is mounted behind the bearing
- Pass the axis of the fork guide with this, tighten the fork with the help of the conical screw and is fixed with safety
Assuming that the rest of the components of the clutch kit on the engine (pressure plate, driving disk) is good and did not disturb the clutch, follow the inverse operation of the assembly of the gearbox, its engine pairing, the recharging with transmission oil, mounting the planetaries.
Of course, the volume of work is too large for such a small piece, which is why it is preferable to drive as correctly as possible, to avoid premature damage to the pressure pad and replace it (possibly, if applicable) with the clutch kit.
For initiates, the change of pressure buffer is carried out on the following steps:
- Checkpoint is dismantled
- disconnect the ends of the clutch bow clamp
- Remove the bearing from the driving sleeve
- The archery support is detached
- Remove the bearing from the mating, after which a new one is mounted.
Careful! The new bearing, after it has been mounted, should rotate as easily as possible, any tension or game is not allowed.
Before installing the bearing on the guide bush, their surfaces must be lubricated.
Since the clutch is a very important component of the car, in the first signs that the pressure buffer assigns, deals with an authorized service, to avoid damage to the entire system.
The clutch pressure pad should resist up to up to 150,000 km, in adequate operating conditions, otherwise it will be modified every 50,000 km.
