The pressure regulator, known by most drivers as a «pressure valve», guarantees a high degree of vehicle performance and establishes a fuel consumption in optimal shares. The pressure regulator can be mechanical or electric (depending on the type of engine), with the role of regulation of the fuel pump pressure (petrol or diesel), not to pass a certain value. Among the symptoms that announce the appearance of a malfunction in the fuel pressure regulator, it is possible to satisfy:

• The engine works unstable
• The car is breaking while walking
• The engine starts hard or not at all
• The car slowly accelerates at high speed
• The engine stops when walking empty
• The nominal power of the engine decreases
• Dark smoke on the exhaust – This symptom is not only found when the failure of the regulator, but also in other situations, such as: defective carburetor, worn injectors, clogged air filters
• The fuel consumption increases – When the regulator works badly, the engine is forced to make much greater efforts so that the car can work
• Problems for acceleration and deceleration – If the regulator is defective, the engine speed does not exceed 2000 – 3000 laps, there is an air imbalance. By excessively accumulating fuel, the effect of speed reduction will be delayed, making deceleration difficult
• Fuel leaks: the regulator is equipped with gaskets that can be worn over time. The defect should be resolved quickly, with a fire risk.
• Noises at the level of the fuel pump

• Expiry of the term of validity
• Poor quality fuel
• The drowned fuel filter
• Wrong installation of the regulator, if a house has been tried.

Symptoms of the defective petrol pressure regulator

Most petrol engines are engines with Indirect injection To which the fuel is injected Monupter, with a single injector before the valves, thus replacing the carburettor or multiple (MPI), with an injector in front of each suction valve. In a constructive way, all the car brands with MPI engines (Dacia Logan 1.2 MPI, 1.4 MPI, 1.6 MPI, Audi A3 1.6 MPI, VW Golf 5 1.6 MPI, etc.) have this injection option. The difference between the fuel pressure in the ramp and that of the suction air must be permanently constant, regardless of how the engine works. This balance is maintained by the pressure regulator. If the fuel pressure regulator is defective, no constant level is maintained between the fuel and air pressure, which leads to a defective operation of the engine, since the amount of petrol injected into the cylinders can no longer be controlled.

All GDI, PSI, TSI, TPSI cars are equipped with petrol engines with Direct injection – FSI (injection stratified to fuel), to which the fuel is injected directly into the cylinder, in the combustion chamber, using a common ramp for all injectors, and a pressure pump will push the petrol in conjunction and equal in all injectors.
