The ignition impulse sensor is in accommodation. The device custody contains a permanent magnet, a magnetic circuit and a microciruit with a sensitive element. The device is powered with a power voltage (usually from a 12 V or 5 V battery, by a separate stabilizer). From the exit of the operational amplifier located in the microciruit, a signal is eliminated, which is powered to the Auk, as in the following example:
The teeth of the reference disk of the camshaft pass through the sensor slot. Until the lines of resistance of the magnetic field are covered by the metal of the teeth, there is a tension on the sensitive element, but no signal is presented when the sensor exit.
When the reference point crosses the lines of resistance of the magnetic field, the tension on the sensitive element disappears and when the device comes out of the signal it increases almost to the value of the power voltage.
In the case of slots, a main disc with aerial space is used. When it passes through the sensor magnetic field, a control impulse is generated. Together with the final device, an tooth disk is used. The reference disc and the phase sensor are installed so that the control impulse is transmitted to the Auk while the piston passes on the upper deadline of the first cylinder, at the beginning of a new operating cycle. In diesel motor cars, the formation of impulses takes place for each separate cylinder.
Very often there are the Camma di Hall axis, the induction sensors, in which there is a perlating magnet and a coil of inductance is wrapped on the magnetic nucleus. The magnetic field that changes during the passage of the reference points creates electrical impulses in the coil.
In the optical sensors, an optocol is used and the control impulses are formed when the optical connection between LED and the photodiumo is interrupted when passing the reference points. The optical sensors of the CAM axis have not found a great application in the automotive sector, although they can be found in other systems.
2. The role of the axis sensor with the camera
The functioning of the power unit in modern cars is electronic controlled. The ECU (Electronic Control Unit) generates control impulses based on the analysis of the signals received from different sensors.
Therefore, the sensors located in different areas allow to evaluate the engine conditions at any time and promptly correct certain parameters. These sensors include the axis sensor in Camma.
Its signal allows you to verify the synchronization of the injection system of a mixture of fuel in the engine cylinders. In the vast majority of injection engines, the sequential injection distributed (in the phase) of the mixture is used. In this case, ECU alternatively opens each nozzle, ensuring the flow of the air fuel mixture in the cylinders, just before the suction race.
The phase, i.e. the correct sequence and the right time for the opening of the injectors, is exactly what the sensor of the camshaft offers, which is why it is often called the phase sensor.
Its correct operation allows to obtain optimal combustion of the fuel mixture, increase the engine power and avoid the use of useless fuel.
3. Symptoms of the defective sensor of the camshaft
Very often drivers mention the following symptoms of a campaign defect:
- Block the transmission to one speed. To release the block, turn off and restart the engine. The phenomenon can be repeated at regular intervals.
- Significant reduction in engine power. Example: it is impossible to accelerate the engine over 55-60 km/h.
- The engine can stop suddenly.
- If the defect occurs in motion, the engine is destroyed, while the engine power decreases considerably.
- The difficult ignition rate
- The weak dynamics of the engine
- A defective sensor simply blocks the formation of a spark, which the car is impossible to start.
- On board the control of the control engine lights up

The following errors appear to diagnosis:
Nr CRT | Error symbol | Explanations |
1 | P0340 | There is no signal from the camshaft sensor (open circuit) |
2 | P0341 | Non -valid value of the sensor signal |
3 | P0342 | Low signal level at the entrance of the sensor circuit |
5 | P0343 | High level of the signal at the entrance of the DPRV circuit |
6 | P0344 | Unstable sensor signal |
4. Where is the sensor of the axis of the clean and clean axis
The position of the axis sensor in Camma is specific for each type of engine. Usually it is located somewhere in the cylinder area. It is necessary to inspect the upper part of the distribution chain or the distribution belt or pay attention to the rear of the head. Some producers «hide» this sensor in special compartments.
It is also important to know that some cars can be equipped with several sensors.
To identify exactly the place where the Camma axis sensor is located, it is necessary to focus on the position of the fireplace. You can find it on the right or left side of the engine. The position of the sensor varies according to the brand and the car model.
Some car manufacturers put it in a special compartment under the hood (it is the general engines).
Below we will present some examples with the sensor position on different machines:
-
Camshas with Opel Astra car cams
-
VAZ 2114 Camme tree sensor
-
Senzor Ax Ax Slide Volkswagen Polo
If the witness of the «control engine» has already turned on (you may not constantly shine, but appear periodically), it is necessary to read the error code using the diagnostic device.

It is not always the presence of one of the heroes mentioned above indicates that the sensor must be replaced. Sometimes the cause of the problem lies in damage to the connector wiring. It is very possible to remedy these problems alone:
First of all, check the condition of the sensor connector and the threads that go there. Make sure there are no dirt, oil or rust.
Check the integrity of the threads: broken yarns, bad connections or defects of the insulating layer, caused by high temperatures: all this can be extremely unpleasant.
The sensor wires must not come into contact with the high voltage threads of the ignition system. After being cleaned, replace those presented above. In the event that the problem has not solved, it is possible to move on to the measurements of the multimeter sensor.
Some sensors have designed connectors so that they can connect further threads to read the data with a multimeter. If this is not possible, try to disconnect the sensor and connect the thin copper threads to each connector terminal. Then reinstall the connector so that two wires come out of the body and use them for the multimeter.
The sensor can be removed and cleaned by misery and oil deposits accumulated over time.
Most of the camshaft sensors have changed not because of physical wear, but for a completely different reason: the garnish between the sensor and the head is strengthened. Due to the high temperatures it breaks, leaving the oil outside, contaminating the device, just like in the image below:
This ring «or» or «garnish» is part of the sensor, causing the sensor replacement.
If the burnt outline is removed and yet try to recover it, perfect resistance to the estate and temperature is necessary.
5. What you risk if you go by car and the ignition impulse sensor is defective
When the ignition impulse sensor is defective, serious problems can occur, in any form, ignored.
If the sensor fails during a trip to the highway, there is an increased potential of discomfort or accidents. For this reason it is essential that when you know you have such a problem you don’t risk.
First of all, with the recognition of the symptoms listed above, it is the wisest contact a specialized seminar. There an expert will manage his substitute.
Many drivers ask: «Is it sure to drive with a defective sensor of the camshaft?» Well, the specialist’s response is «we don’t recommend».
If the sensor is defective or defective, it will affect the engine tree, which can heat the car engine too much, so it would be totally inappropriate to run such a risk.
However, in order to give an explicit and technical answer to the above question, we must know:
OR First of all you have to hear if the car engine works normally, instead of being blocked,
OR Secondly, if your car has an incorrect and well -known ignition that the engine that controls the LED lights up or starts flashing, it is not advisable to drive.
OR The guide in this state can damage the car engine by generating additional costs.
The final response is: if you have diagnosed and identified the failure of the sensor, the correct variant is to replace it as soon as possible. In the end the only way to drive the car is on duty.
